In this Employee Spotlight, get to know Director of Technology Travis Sirmon, who works out of our New Orleans office. Read below to learn about Travis!

How long have you worked at Transmarine? Nine months. So far, so great!

What’s something you enjoy about your job at Transmarine? I love adopting new technology that helps us enhance our daily productivity.

How would your coworkers describe you? “Friendly, passionate, and optimistic.”

Tell us about an exciting or interesting project you’ve worked on at Transmarine. We are currently implementing a brand-new telecoms system that will unify our company with a single vendor. This is just the latest new system we’ve installed that will help us serve our clients better.

How long have you worked in the industry? 25 years.

What is your professional background before you started work at Transmarine? Before joining Transmarine, I was the Global Service Manager for another port agency for 13 years, an IT coordinator for Austal USA (a military ship building company) for three years, a Quality Analyst for Kingsway America (insurance company) for four years, and a Service Support Tech at Southern United Fire Insurance Co. for four years.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time? I love coaching high school basketball, which I’ve been doing for nearly 15 years now. I also love spending time with my family, going to the gym, and playing drums!

Anything else you’d like to share about your professional background or current role to be included in your Employee Spotlight? Transmarine has some of the greatest employees I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. The team is very accepting and open to change, which is rare among port agencies. I made a promise to not complicate things by implementing tools “just because,” as every initiative has a purpose and supports our efforts to provide the best possible customer service to our clients. My goal is to put the focus back on the Transmarine staff to find ways to help them work more efficiently. We’ve weathered the storm of changes that 2023 presented, and we’re looking forward to reaping the benefits in 2024!
