Clements, Board to Steer Policy for Prestigious Trade Association

Leslie Clements, Managing Director of Transmarine Navigation Corporation – a leading U.S. tramp ship agency with offices in a dozen port cities along the Gulf Coast, West Coast, and Hawaii – was recently sworn in as a member of the Board of Directors for the Association of Ship Brokers & Agents (ASBA).

Clements and her fellow board members will steer policy for ASBA, who works to advance and foster the ideals and standards of professional conduct and practices and serves as a medium through which members with common interests can communicate.

“I’m thrilled to be chosen to help lead such a prestigious organization,” Clements said. “I look forward to working closely with other board members to provide support and helpful resources for our esteemed member ship brokers and agents.”

ASBA was formed in 1934. Members use the Association to address issues affecting their companies and principals on a national level — and to advocate for quality. ASBA’s landmark member certification was embraced by its international counterpart, the Federation of National Associations of Ship Brokers & Agents (FONASBA) in 2007, is called the FONASBA Quality Standard and is now being awarded in 22 member countries. Owner’s organizations, BIMCO, INTERTANKO, and INTERCARGO, recognized the value of promoting ‘quality’ in the appointment of ship agents when they endorsed the Quality Standard.
